Dunhuang Community in SIP’s Xietang Sub-district recently hosted an event to usher in the Chinese Spring Festival which, reckoned on the first day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, will fall on Feb 17 this year.

In the event, a sugar painting expert demonstrated the traditional craft of using a spoon and melted sugar to draw pictures. With swift movements, golden syrup was shaped into vivid zodiac animals and flowers, attracting crowds with its sweet aroma. Many children waited at the booth to taste the delicate creations.

In another zone, with volunteers’ help, residents printed auspicious patterns and zodiac designs onto red envelopes and lanterns that they intended to give to families as gifts. Their smiles indicated their satisfaction with their works.

Moreover, several calligraphy enthusiasts wrote Spring Festival couplets bearing auspicious messages on site, and a group of volunteers then distributed the couplets to residents.

A group of couriers and on-demand food delivery riders were invited and given gifts as thanks for their services.
