A heartwarming scene recently emerged in SIP’s Loufeng Sub-district: 38 street trees were adorned with elaborately knitted sweaters marking the Year of the Horse according to the Chinese Zodiac.

The sweaters were handcrafted by members of the knitting class at the Loufeng Sub-district University for the Aged. They attracted many passersby to stop to admire and take photos.

This project is just one highlight of the class’s achievements. The class once reproduced the woolen-yarn versions of 21 famous paintings in just two and a half months, and their custom piece named “Soul Urn” sold overseas for over RMB10,000, showcasing both artistic and market success.

The knitting class is just part of the university’s broader innovative senior education program, and other courses include those on knot buttons, traditional music and unmanned aerial vehicle operation, which allow seniors to find joy in the process of learning new knowledge and skills.
